Welcome! I'm Barbara Shannon, I have been a Massage Therapist for 35 years and in that time I have acquired 2,000 + hours, and that's not including the workshops I have taken along the years.
My expertise as a therapist lies in keeping my sessions elegantly simple. I know how to create a strong foundation with basic strokes and build upon that with more sophisticated techniques such as Lymphatic, Massage Cupping and Abhyanga Massage. As an instructor, my enthusiasm and passion lies in teaching Massage because I know how to excite and inform a student.
Aromatherapy has interested me since I first put almond oil in my hands. My question was – “What do you put in the oil that gives clients that double whammy effect?” I didn’t know the words..........Aromatherapy or Essential Oils.........but then I was given a book on the subject and the rest is history as they say. I have taken many workshops in this field along with reading and sharing over 40 books of mine on the subject.
I had the privilege of working with Judith Jackson as Director of Training for both land and sea based spas. I have traveled all over the world and got to experience lots of assorted massages along with different personalities. This allows you as a teacher to be open to all unique learning styles and people.
While living on the East Coast I discovered that I needed to acquire my National Certification (NCBTMB) in order to practice. That was a good learning curve for me personally and taught me what others potentially would need to do in order to become a Massage Therapist in a different state(s).
I have been an instructor for over 31 years and I love to see when the ‘light bulbs turn on’ for the student, it is very gratifying. I primarily taught at the Healing Arts Institute in Fort Collins, CO, as well as, the Galen Institute in Stamford, CT before their closure. I have also had the pleasure of teaching massage classes at top notch spas across the US such as The Breakers in Palm Beach, Sonoma Mission Inn & Ojai Spa in California, The Equinox Spas in NYC and Rancho Manana Spa in AZ to name a few.
With the extensive knowledge base I have gained over the years and my true dedication to share this wisdom with others I bring a lot to the table. I have often been told my enthusiasm and excitement for the field and for my clients fills a room and I am continually humbled and honored by my placement in this industry.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, would like to schedule a session, or to discuss possible workshops.
